Acid Stains
Chrome-Etch Acid Stains create permanent, variegated, earth tone color shades on cured concrete that won’t chip, peel or flake from the surface. The color is provided by a chemical reaction between the chemicals in the acid stain and the minerals in the concrete surface. When properly sealed and waxed, acid stained surfaces can become a permanent flooring system that will last for decades with little maintenance.
The Process:The concrete surface to be stained must be cured for a minimum of 28 days and be clean and free from curing compounds, sealers, waxes, paints or any other material that would interfere with the penetration of the stain into the pores of the concrete. The concrete can be scored, engraved or saw cut before or after staining to impart patterns or design in the surface. These cuts can be grouted to resemble real tiles.
The acid stain is normally applied with a special plastic sprayer designed to spray acids. One coat is normally all that is required. After it is allowed to sit overnight, the dried acid stain is neutralized by washing the surface with water and ammonia or baking soda. When the surface is dry, two coats of Chrome-Seal Clear Sealer are applied. Two to three coats of Dura Polish Wax are normally applied over the Chrome-Seal for interior applications.
Various color effect can be achieved by using Chrome-Etch in conjunction with SCP’s other colored concrete systems. For example, acid staining over colored concrete will give infinite color combinations.
